Coming and going

Last month’s installation at the Rochester Public Library is, unfortunately, now gone. But that’s ok. As more events come back, we have more coming. Next public events for us: Maker Faire Syracuse and Maker Faire Miami.

Going …

After two long days, working with hundreds of people of all ages, we had a 60-foot long rainbow ready for display. It was a great kickoff to Teaching Artists ROC’s year long series of programs that will be filling the Rochester libraries. If you’ve been following Airigami for a while, you’ve seen our Bubble Murals as one way that we’ve invited the community to build sculptures with us. This rainbow was just a little different. We built it using our mural technique, but knew that we’d be shaping it in a fun way for the final installation. Why just hang a mural flat when there’s such a beautiful 3D space to fill? Why leave the mural, the work done by the public, as only a backdrop to something else when it can be the subject of the work? Hopefully we’ll have more opportunities to play with this idea, featuring community-made pieces in more fun spaces.

Maker Faire Syracuse 2022

Coming …

We participated last year in Maker Faire Syracuse with, you guessed it, a Bubble Mural. Maker Faires are, of course always about interactivity and participation from attendees. We’ll be doing the same on April 1 this year, but showing off a different design than we used before. You’ll have to join us there if you want to be among the first to see what it is. Check out Maker Faire Syracuse for more details on time and location.

Thanks to Gemar USA, we’re going to hit Maker Faire Miami just a couple weeks after Syracuse, on April 15-16. This may be our first project in Miami, so I’m not sure who we know there. If you’re in Miami, let us know.
